In Loving Memory of Malcolm Douglas Jordan
Malcolm Douglas Jordan was born on December 14, 1935, in Barbados, West Indies, to the late Ernest Branch and the late Carmi Jordan. He began working at the age of 14 and spent his early years in Barbados building a strong foundation of hard work, responsibility, and determination. His early employment included work as a gardener for Victor Chase, a racehorse owner, as well as positions at the Ju-C Bottling Company and the Savannah Club, where he served as a groundskeeper preparing the tennis courts. He also performed many other odd jobs before leaving Barbados.
At the age of 21, Malcolm left Barbados aboard a Flying Tigers Airline charter flight and came to the United States of America. He worked in several states along the Eastern Seaboard before settling in New York. In 1969, he earned a Certificate of Merit in Comprehensive Photo Offset Lithography from the Manhattan School of Printing, a skill that served him well throughout his working life. He was employed as a Mail Clerk with Cross & Brown Realty Company from 1968 to 1990, where his offset printing training was put to use. He also worked at Bell Security as a security guard and later as a supervisor from 1978 to 1989. After his years with Cross & Brown, Malcolm continued working at Newmark Realty as a Mail Clerk until the age of 84.
In 1966, Malcolm married Perlia Davis, née Richard, and became a stepfather to Sonya Davis and Norman Davis Jr.
Malcolm is survived by his daughter, Carmen Elizabeth Sullivan; his son-in-law, Ricardo Owen Sullivan; and his grandchildren, Shayla Elizabeth Sullivan, Ricardo Owen Sullivan III, and Delroy Wayne Sullivan. He also leaves to cherish his memory a host of nieces and nephews. A special acknowledgment is extended to his great-niece, Shakira Hinds Browne, for her loving support, care, and dedication to Malcolm during his many medical appointments. Acknowledgements are also extended to his dear friends, Lacey Harewood and Alicia Brown. Malcolm was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Hinds and Renrick Jordan.
Malcolm was a gifted cook and took great pride in preparing meals for family and loved ones. He was especially known for his homemade pepper sauce, coconut bread, and black cake—foods that reflected both his heritage and his love for sharing with others. His pepper sauce was so strong that the aroma could make your eyes water as he cooked it, leaving a memory as memorable as the man himself.
Malcolm loved his family deeply and will be forever missed. His life was a testament to perseverance, devotion, and quiet strength, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
